It seems that each year we are bombarded with even more, more, and yet more useless kitchen gadgets. Some are just cosmetic updates to classic gadgets, a precious few are genuinely innovative, but many more are just plain useless.
Here are 20 gadgets that are completely useless for your kitchen.
1. Chocolate fountain
This gadget is useless because the taste of chocolate fountain is horrible. Chocolate pellets are used for this fountain, but you get nothing except chocolate all over the place. After all, it’s a fountain!
The biggest issue with this fountain is that you have to clean the mess after using it. And believe my words you won’t be able to clean it with ease if you do the cleaning stuff after some time. Plus, drinking more than 1 piece of fruit from this special gadget seems like ‘mission impossible’. This is the most gimmicky thing I ever came across. God, I need to get rid of it!
2. Soda Stream
Get this machine and you are in trouble. You start off by slotting a heavy and somewhat dangerous- looking gas canister into its back. Then, you put a bottle containing tap water in the front. The next thing is to press the button to fill the water with special fizz. To add flavour, you use a variety of coloured concentrates. If you hope to get the taste of different canned drinks like Tango or Coke, forget it! Not only the taste is nothing compared to those canned drinks, but bubbles don’t last for long, either. That’s the reason why it usually occupies the space available in the back of your kitchen cupboard.
3. Fondou set
Definitely not a good choice! These sets are useless, as handling them is quite messy, and I know, you are like many other people who really don’t like cleaning your pots after cooking up cheese or similar stuff.
4. Children’s Ice cream maker
I have to include this plastic ice cream maker in the list of useless kitchen gadgets. It comes with a plastic base unit that is to be filled with the ice cream mixture. There is a drum made of metal and plastic which is to be filled with ice. And, there is a crank handle that is to be turned to rotate this drum. By doing so, it dips into the ice cream mixture and forms a layer of frozen ice cream.
This ice cream maker was presented as a gift, but soon after our kids turned the handles for few times, Mummy had to complete the job. Since then, we never resorted to this machine.
5. Electric Knife
Useless! It sums it all. Needless to tell you why.
6. Apple Peeler and Corer
I really don’t know exactly who are those people who think they need an apple peeler? This is a ridiculous thing to own. Just have a look at this device and you will see premium real estate in your cupboard getting wasted for good. And, there is a lot to do with this machine to get peeled apple. Not to mention, you have to clean it and then put it back in your cupboard. Really, too much to ask in today’s busy world! You will be better off staying away from it.
7. Electric Wine Opener
Interested in fancy gimmickry? Go for this wine opener. But, if you think like me, you should stay away from it. Although I did make a mistake of buying this battery-operated opener, I soon realized it is a piece of trash. I never managed to open 25% of bottles with this opener – and I don’t know about the issues. I finally got rid of it when I dropped it – glad I did! Now, I am back to manual opener and it works!
8. Bread Maker
I was interested in buying a new kitchen gadget and I opted for this bread maker. It seemed like a perfect addition to our kitchen gadgets, but that was only for some time. No doubt, it worked fine to make loaves of bread, but we soon realized that we are not a family that eats loaves so often. Since then, it is lying comfortably on our microwave since we don’t have enough space to store it.
9. Your Own Pop Corn Machine
It is hard to find a person who needs a machine to satisfy his hunger for popcorns. I mean, I love popcorn but I am not a maniac eating who eats buckets of popcorn. So, there is no need to a machine for popcorns. Believe me, it’s only be taking up your precious kitchen space.
10. Cotton Candy Maker
I don’t think it is a good choice. No one eats that much of cotton candy to buy a cotton candy maker. Even if you are one of those who love it, you are surely be hurting yourself as Cotton Candy is pure sugar, and not to mention, what excessive sugar can do to you.
11. Single-Serve Gourmet Coffee Machine
Coffee pods for this cheap machines work out at $1 per cup! Once you finish all the “free” pods, its time to abandon your machine in the nearest storage room.
12. Mushroom Brush
Disgusting! The only word I have for these brushes. I can’t help noticing these brushes lying on the edge of sinks, but I don’t know why we need these brushes to clean mushrooms. Here’s a secret, I use a knife to clean clump of dirt. It is simple, easy and of course, economical.
13. Turkey Baster
Yeah, I have seen people buying it, but I never found a person using it. As amazing as it sounds, I heard some people use it to get pregnant. Holy night! There are people with such thoughts. But, I am not a fan of Turkey Baster, because they don’t only look old-fashioned, but they also take up space. The best thing to use is gravy ladle. Use it, it works!
14. Avocado Flesh Remover
Many candidates can be found to be tagged as useless fruit slicer, but the worst is Avocado slicer. See it and you will understand, why?
15. Electric Pizza Cutter
I have no doubts about the fact that cutting pizza is one of the simplest kitchen jobs. So, why on earth a person should buy an electric pizza cutter? Get pizza by dominos and you won’t require a masonry grinder to get slices.
16. Showtime Rotisserie
Nothing really impressive about it! Even if you like the idea of making an entire chicken in your sweet home, you should be keeping yourself away from this piece of junk.
17. Electric Pasta Machine
Please, someone help me get rid of my electric pasta maker! It is so huge that I can not find enough space to put it in. Plus, it is annoying to clean this machine after you are done with your pasta making expedition.
18. Taco Holders
As they came out with flat bottom tacos, it is useless to own them. Don’t fall for these holders!
19. Electric Cheese Grater
Ah… yet another useless kitchen gadget! Yes, this battery assisted cheese grater works fine, but it doesn’t have power to help you when grating hard cheese. Not only does it take more time to grate hard cheese, but it also takes ages to get cleaned – dissembling is a pain in the neck.
You can consider it if you just need small amount of cheese – very small, to be exact. This is not a good option for any household. I thought I would use it to grate cheese for salad, it never worked – it’s still better to use hand grater.
20. Onion Goggles
Are worried about tears when chopping onions? Get onion goggles! But, do you think this will help? Not really. It comes with a price tag of $18 and it really makes you want to cry. There is seal after seal to stop vapours entering your eyes and hurting your corneas. So, nothing special about it!
